DIVING IN CHUMBE ISLAND

Chumbe Island offers some of the most pristine and colorful coral reefs globally, with over 200 species of coral providing a sanctuary for more than 400 species of colorful fish. To protect these coral reefs, diving is not permitted in the marine park. However, visitors can still explore the shallow waters using snorkeling gear to witness the vibrant marine life. The reef’s shallow depth allows for clear visibility with just a mask, snorkel, and fins

Knowledgeable guides at Chumbe Island lead daily snorkeling and forest tours for guests. These tours offer insights into the diverse marine ecosystem and the unique coral-rag forest on the island. The coral-rag forest is home to various species, including the endangered Ader’s Duiker, giant Coconut Crabs, hermit crabs, and different bird species. Guests can opt for day trips or longer stays in eco-bungalows overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Chumbe Island Coral Park Ltd operates as a not-for-profit organization, reinvesting all profits from tourism back into conservation and education programs within the park. The island is managed by local Zanzibaris from the fishing community with support from overseas experts. The conservation efforts of Chumbe Island have been internationally recognized for their sustainable management practices
