Location and Features: Mnemba Atoll is a renowned conservation area in Zanzibar, featuring a seven by four kilometers reef with the tiny Mnemba Island. It is situated on the northeast side of Zanzibar, across from Matemwe town. The area is part of the Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area (MIMCA) and offers excellent visibility ranging from 20 to 30 meters. Known for its encounters with Common Dolphins, picturesque reefs, and clear blue waters, Mnemba Atoll is a diver’s paradise.

Diving Experience at Mnemba Atoll: Diving at Mnemba Atoll offers a diverse underwater experience despite coral bleaching issues faced by Zanzibar in recent years. The marine life remains vibrant with schools of fish like yellow snappers and angelfish. Dive sites such as Kichwani/Small Wall provide opportunities for both beginners and experienced divers to explore colorful fish species, coral walls, and encounters with dolphins.

The area features shallow sea grass patches, sandy slopes, coral reefs teeming with critters like ghost pipefish, leaf fish, seahorses, eels, shrimp, scorpion fish, and octopus. While larger sea creatures are not common sightings, lucky divers may spot grey reef sharks or giant groupers occasionally.
